Petrified, final cut film opening

This is the re edited version of the original film opening. When completing the first film opening, we noticed that the original was not long enough and gave the inception of being too much like a film trailer. This believe was confirmed by a showing to our target audience. So we listened to the constructive criticism and extended the length of the opening. We also edited text and picture quality to enhance public viewing . I believe this was  a learning curve and experience with working on topics as film, rather then a set back. Its all part of the creating process and is an example of listening to your target audience.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my preliminary, I believe I have re founded and picked up new skills.  My own filming skills and editing skills have both improved. Before doing the film opening task, I had a very basic understanding and a little experience in filming and editing. I picked up the skills of creating an logo/icon on the program Live Type. Something I had no understanding on how to do before hand. During the process we had to re edit our film opening to make it reach its full potential, as it was being identitfied as a film trailer and not a film opening.
Outline of what I have learned on Prezi

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout the process of making the film opening, I used a number of different technologies.

Programs used;

  • Final Cut Express (editing film)
  • Live Type (film company logo)
  • Comic Life (story board)
  • Soundtrack Pro (creating sound)
Products used;
  • Digital film camera (to film)
  • Tripod (keeps camera steady while filming)
  • Digital camera (take taster/experimental pictures)
Internet
  • Research similar horror films (to get an idea of what our horror movie would look like)
  • Emailing information (Allowing other people of my group to exchange information)
When using these programs and products, I was able to develop and increase my own skills. I picked up the ability to edit films efficiently, using the program Final Cut Express. This in return improved my creative skills. The use of the digital film camera, allowed me to become more experienced with filming. In conclusion, it allowed me to improve my filming skills and get more equated with the filming process.

Overall my skills improved with the programs and products used, while doing my film opening.

How does your media product represent a particular social group

Our film opening represents teenagers/young adults

 As you can see from the text, the film followers teenagers and therefor has teenage actors/ actresses representing character teenagers.
Here again you can see teenagers being represented. A teenage girl is seen running form the protagonist. This indicates that the film represents teenagers as its social group

How do you attract/address your audience

To attract our audience for our film opening, we used actors/actresses that are in the same age range.  This allows our target audience to relate to the characters and the story. The genre also attracts our audience, as horror is the most popular film genre for young adult targets. The film opening also uses fast paced scenes of a chase, depiction's of violence and a sense of threat. The contents of our film opening, help to create a sense of familiarity to other horror films.  Therefor our film appeals to our target audience, as its contents are similar to other established horror films, in which young adults watch.
The story follows five teenagers/young adults, who are the target audience of our film. Therefor it
helps the audience to relate to the characters and story. The black and white background creates a dark mood and red writing, helps the text to stand out and is the color of blood. Which relates well to the genre

The scene depicts a victim being dragged, the victim is female and therefor is stereotypical to horror films. This provides the audience with a sense of familiarity and the expectation of threat. This rein forces the genera of our film opening to our audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A film company like Fox Searchlight Pictures, specializing in independent and British films are most likely to distribute our British independent film.  Fox Searchlight Pictures would be the most likely to take a chance on a different type of film that is different from the major Hollywood films. Independent, British films like Slumdog Millionaire, Black swan and The Full Monty have all been distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures and are all unique films from the typical money making plot formula films.  Fox Searchlight Pictures also specialize in the Horror genre, so our British, independent, horror film will have the best possible chance of distribution with Fox Searchlight Pictures.  http://www.foxsearchlight.com/
